Genesis continued to pour money into creating not only the home his mother dreamed of, but also a home that displayed their status as the wealthiest family in the desert.
Atticus often awakened with a surly attitude.
He plotted about being head of the household. He would be the richest man in the desert.
He couldn't wait for the day that he could rule over more than just his little sister.
He liked his family's power and intended to increase it by marrying from a family of equal wealth.
Not wishing to draw Annia's wrath, Jair worried less about his nephew. Instead he focused on his stories.
Now that she was old enough to be married, Varinia was determined to do so before Atticus was head of the family. She approached her father for approval.
Annia was dismayed of the thought of her firstborn moving out of the household.
Annia decided to host a party. Perhaps a husband for Varinia could be found through such an occasion.
"Don't fret, Annia. All of the children will grow up one day, but they won't all leave our household."
" Did you meet anyone you found interesting, Varinia?"
"Everyone was nice, Mother."
Jair was knackered after a day of writing and then a party.
Atticus thought it was funny to scare people.
Delilah wasn't amused by his games.
Atticus was incensed that Delilah told him off and reminded him that he wasn't man of the house yet.
Atticus loved to aggravate his younger sister.
Livia was tired of him treating her like that and stomped off to complain to her parents.
Genesis was angered at Atticus' behavior and resolved to discipline him against Annia's wishes.
Genesis announced that he was taking Annia and their daughters to the sea to visit family. Perhaps Afua, Kojo's younger brother might be a suitable husband for Varinia. Atticus would be left behind to garden under Delilah's direction. It was time for him to learn responsibility.
Deliah was pleased that her brother was finally seeing the truth about Atticus. She hoped it wasn't too late.
Atticus was angry about missing the trip and having to labor in the garden.
Annia tried to persuade Genesis to change his mind, but he would not.
Much had changed since the family last visited the sea. Tahash no longer lived on the large estate with his family. Kojo now helped his father.
Kwadwo and Nneka were silver haired now, but still living. Kojo's younger brother still resided there but was of marrying age. Kojo and Tirzah had two sons now: Antonious and Quintus.
Varinia enjoyed Afua's company while Livia played with her cousins.
Tirzah was pleased about the visit as well as the idea of Varinia getting to know Afua.
Varinia liked the sea, the lovely home and could not deny that the men in this family were kind, treated their wives well and good fathers. She just felt uncertain about the idea with her head filled with love stories from her friends.
All too soon their visit was over. It was time to walk around the island so Genesis could visit with his beloved brother, Tahash.
Varinia could not deny the beauty of this place.
Soon Tahash's home came into view. It was not as grand as his father-in-law's, but it was well built lovely place by the sea.
Tahash's twin boys were almost grown. Demetrius looked more like Tahash than Cyrus did. Tahash and Yejide were also the parents to two daughters now: Marilla and Juno.
Livia thought playing with girl cousins was more fun than boy cousins.
After spending time chatting with her cousins, Varinia slipped off to gather while thinking hard about whether or not she'd be happy marrying Afua and living by the sea.
She wondered if there might be someone else out there for her.
Upon returning home, Varinia planted the fungus she found.
Throughout the evening, the household was mindful of the changes coming to the household.
The family finally sold enough produce to the market for the entire lot to be walled for protection and privacy.
Atticus was still an ass of a big brother.
Varinia ordered Atticus to stop, angering him.
He was also angry that Delilah's interference was forcing him into the garden. Delilah pointed out that without their crops, he'd not have wealth. That he understood, but he thought others should labor for him.
Even though Atticus proclaimed education was for boys, Livia studied to prove him wrong.
Jair still liked to inhale the herb for inspiration.
But he set fire to the planter by his desk again.
Genesis was furious and ordered Jair to stop this habit as it endangered the household.
Annia hosted another dinner party and invited Afua to attend.
Varinia liked Afua very much.
He liked her too. But she couldn't shake the feeling that there was someone else out there for her.
Atticus seemed more charming than usual.
Jair wondered what Atticus was up to.
Atticus had overheard party talk about herbalism. It would seem some potions healed. And some could harm. Atticus decided he would learn to make these potions.
