Movin' On Up

The morning after Varinia became a child, eating breakfast and washing breakfast dishes was accomplished as quickly as possible. Today was moving day.

Annia and Lilith finally convinced Genesis to quit wearing his skins. He should look the part of a man with education and wealth.

It was finally time to pack up and move into their new home. It was clearly the jewel of the desert. The underground spring had been harnessed to flow throughout the home. While Adam had been gifted with a garden, Lilith was determined to build her own. The first set of steps lead up to the garden, cooking room and main living area, the second set of steps to the bathing rooms and sleeping quarters, the third set of stairs led to a single bedroom with a beautiful view of the desert and a private bath, the fourth set of steps up to a viewing area and a place for sun salutations.

There would be little, to no windows. With thick walls and fresh stream water flowing through channels, the temperature inside would be most comfortable. Up off the hot desert floor, there would be fresh airing flowing through the home. Lilith urged everyone inside to look around, for she alone had been within the building.

In the center of the vast living space was a large fountain.

"Mother!" exclaimed Annia. "This is amazing!"

Delilah grumbled, "It will be too dark in here without the moonlight."

Lilith informed them, "We will using lighted beeswax during the night hours to light the house with."

She continued, "I had shelves built to display the treasures I have dug up."

"There is a spot for learning and writing."

"A room for cooking."

"Thieving from our gardens will be unlikely, now that the crops will be protected."

"We have private rooms and soft bedding for sleeping."

"Flowing water for washing hands..."

"... and bathing."

Genesis spoke up, "Mother, have we many simoleans left? Annia, what are you doing?"

Annia laughed, "I'm dancing in the water to celebrate. Join me!" Delilah, Tirzah and Varinia joined her to frolic in the water.

Lilith told Genesis, "Our garden will be supplying funds as well as my collecting... but don't go crazy spending money for a bit."

Genesis sighed and walked away worried.

Lilith asked Jair and Tahash what they thought.

Jair said, "It's rather grand, Mother, fitting for the queen of the desert."

"You are a charmer, Jair."

Tahash chimed in, "It's a bit too grand for me. And high off the grand for sleeping. I'd feel like a bird. I'll keep to my tent."

After playing in the fountain, Annia went to have an herbal soak with a mud mask.

Genesis was confused, "You have clean flowing water and you're slopping mud on your face?"

Jair wished to become an educated man. He would learn to read and write.

Tahash set about making sure the crops had transplanted well.

Annia coaxed Genesis upstairs near the rooms with the beds.

They invented the game of "mattress tag".

There was now a place to display Jair's paintings. Jair was flattered that his mother thought highly of his creations.

Lilith tried her hand at baking a sweet bread. It was a fitting dish for weddings and parties.

She also had the preserved fish that Adam and Genesis had caught placed on the wall.

"It feels strange being in this building with this beeswax light glowing, Jair. This cake thing is wonderful though."

"Alright," was all Jair responded with. He was too busy learning how to read.

Tahash ate with the family, but went down to the desert floor to build a fire and sleep in the tent.

"What do you think of our new home, Annia? Is it pleasing to you?"

"It's wonderful, Genesis. I hope to birth many babies here."

Lilith sank into her soft bedding and looked forward to a beautiful view when the sun rose.

The next morning over breakfast, no one cared to sit on the finer living room furniture while they ate. Annia decided sitting at a chair with a raised table was the better choice, Lilith asked the local carpenters to make furniture for eating and had craftsmen come in and change the tile work by the kitchen.

Delilah was gaining confidence and skill with her music. She now played around other people and they found her music pleasing.

Varinia was quickly becoming friends with her Aunt Tirzah.

When the heat of the day was overwhelming, it was nice to be able to sit and visit indoors where it was cooler.

Jair decided to start writing down some of the stories he told to the children.

Annia was pleased to cook up fresh fish for the entire family.

The new dining furniture arrived in time for the evening meal. Dining was now more ceremonial, befitting of the wealthier status they had.

After dinner, Tahash had a serious talk with Genesis. Tahash had loved Granite Falls and wanted to seek a mate and move away from the desert, leaving the household. But he didn't want to leave Genesis with all the gardening. Genesis was torn. He needed Tahash's help, but he knew his brother was unhappy here. Genesis decided that they would all visit the new city that had recently been constructed nearby tomorrow. There he could inquire about hiring gardeners. With hired help, Tahash would be free to leave the home. But there was another concern, the bride's price. With all the funds spent on building the home, there were little funds left. Genesis decided that Lilith would be able to find a mate for Tahash and manage the bride's price. He had complete faith in their mother.

Delilah was the first to awaken, she decided that she would play music in the city's square. She had heard that people watching musicians would offer money.

The little ones were excited as well, chattering over their breakfast.

Lilith could not get over the view she awakened to each morning.

"Mother, do you think we can find a mate for Tahash that will please him? One that we can afford?"

"Tahash is a strong worker and kind, handsome man. I am certain I will find someone."

Tahash worked nervously in the garden. He loved Annia as a sister, but she was not what he wanted for a wife. He hoped his mother could find one suited to him.

Delilah practiced her music while Jair entertained with one of his many stories.

Lilith decided to collect nearby while Genesis and Tahash gardened.

As the sun was just slipping past it's zenith, they all went to the brand new city in the desert.

It was grand! There were shops that sold many items, houses for city dwellers, a small library for the learned people, plus so much more.

While Lilith and Annia perused the shops, Delilah started playing her music.

Varinia found a new friend to play with.

In this city was a lovely place to host a wedding.

Jair took advantage of having supplies nearby and painted a family portrait of Genesis' family.

Genesis went to check out the latest in woodworking tools as well as making contacts for gardeners.

Genesis sat down with Tahash to give a newly invented game a try. It was very intellectual and required strategy and skill.

One of the city dwellers offered her roof for Annia to cook the evening meal for the family.

It was late when they returned home. Tahash was concerned that Lilith had not found him a bride, but Lilith assured him that she had spoke to the right people and he'd have one sooner than later.

Shortly after Genesis went to sleep he was startled awake realizing he was no longer a young adult, but had aged to mature adulthood.

Note: Delilah earned $56 in tips. If you are interested in my early Civilization City lot, you can find more pictures and details here - LINK
