By the Sea

"Aunt Tirzah, what's your favorite thing to do?"

"I love to go fishing."

"Mother says that fish are slimy and gross."

"But she loves to eat them anyway," Tirzah laughed.

"Mother, I can't concentrate with all these frogs in here. It's like a plague or something," Genesis complained.

Annia was miserable at this point. Her back ached and her feet swelled. Despite that, she wouldn't allow Lilith to work hard around the house. And even Jair thought Annia's flat cakes were wonderful.

"Jair, why do you spend all day writing down stories?"

"One day I'll fall into that dreamless sleep. Years from now they may not know my name, but perhaps they'll tell my stories."

Delilah was willing to help her brother with the gardening, taking up slack for Jair's lack of interest.

Lilith continued to keep her body limber and her mind sharp.

As soon as Jair completed one story, he started another.

The family now had over one hundred items collected and displayed.

At the evening meal, Annia began to feel uncomfortable.

Birthing pangs were upon her.

Annia gave birth to Genesis' son. As agreed up, he was bestowed with the name Atticus.

Genesis was immensely proud and also relieved to have a son and heir.

Lilith adored him as well, but she was concerned with the new ways: males were more worthy than females.

Jair had a birthday. No longer a young adult, he needed to think about what he wished to accomplish before he sported silver tresses.

One of the advantages to living in a house with thick walls, little ones crying did not awaken the entire household.

It wasn't easy aging, Lilith thought. Despite the soft raised bed, she felt stiff in the mornings.

Delilah and Tirzah were excited to accompany Lilith to the sea.

Delilah became felt very sickly on the boat and wasn't too happy upon arrival. But Tirzah was enthralled with the views and the sea. Lilith enjoyed them as well, but was most happy to see Tahash.

The family home was most lovely with the beautiful sea breeze wafting through.

Much to Lilith's surprise, Tahash and Yejide's twins had already outgrown their swaddling clothes. They were named Cyrus and Demetrius.

Lilith immediately set about getting to know her grandsons.

Delilah sufficiently recovered from feeling ill and set about entertaining with her lyre.

Tirzah was drawn down to the beautiful shore and fished.

As the sun began to set, Delilah put away her lyre and went to collect for Lilith.

Lilith was surprised to see the changes in Tahash. He was becoming learned rather than just a laborer.

Lilith appreciated getting to know her son's wife and her parents better.

Tirzah  fished until it was time to say "good-bye" to everyone. She was besotted with the island.

As much as they enjoyed their trip, it was good to be home with their family.
